Tell us a little bit of history about your business:
Citizens Mutual has been in business serving southern Iowa for over 100 years! Our story began in the early 1900s with a small group of farmers who needed telephone service and grew into a cutting edge telecommunications provider employing many of our local residents. We have been deploying fiber optic technology for over 35 years. Our fiber powered network has been recognized for our achievements by many organizations, including the State of Iowa as a “Connected Certified Community”, as well as having the distinction of being designated as “Gig-Certified” and a “Smart Rural Community” by NTCA, the Rural Broadband Association.
What are the services or products your business provides?
We offer 3 different internet speeds, from our lowest speed at 100 Mbps upload/download speeds, all the way up to 1 Gig upload/download. We also offer a comprehensive video lineup, ranging from sports, news, kids programs, to food channels, diy, history, and much more. We continue to offer our traditional land-line phone system to any customers who want to have a dedicated line to their homes. Along side this service, we also offer a versatile phone system that can help answer the needs of many residents and businesses alike, called Versitel.
What is your favorite thing about having a business in our community?
Our organization is deeply rooted in small, local communities. We are a cooperative that is truly run by our members. We partner with our small communities to provide the very best in communications services. We are proud to be a major part of peoples’ lives and continue to seek out ways to give back to our members we serve and our communities as a whole.
What is one thing people may not know about you or your business?
Citizens Mutual was recently recognized on PBS for their efforts in providing communications services to rural customers. The documentary will air at various times on PBS and we are excited to be recognized for our efforts and to be part of such a great program.
